The owners

Leo Vazquez and Cara Naylor

Leo Leonardo "Lewandoski" Vazquez was born in San José and has been getting wet for a living since 1992. Guiding and kayaking turned him into a world traveler: he has guided rivers in more than ten countries (the map below counts 19, but who's counting? Leo. Leo is counting).

He has a master's degree in Natural Resources Management, which means he can explain exactly what the river is doing while it's doing it to you. He has lived in Quepos since H2O Adventures began. If he goes quiet for more than five minutes, he's inventing a new trip.

Cara Cara was born in West Virginia and has been packing a bag ever since. She lived in Asia as a kid, traveled around Africa and backpacked through Europe. Then came a Marketing degree from George Washington University and a job with Backroads, leading active trips in South America and Costa Rica.

In 2007 she moved to Quepos. She and Leo met on the river, fell in love and got married in November 2009. Who rescued whom is still being discussed at dinner.

These days Cara runs her own company, Luna Vida Adventures: chocolate, waterfalls, jungle yoga and retreats, with one rule: "Be here." Leo gets you wet. Cara gets you chocolate. Pick your favorite. Or better, pick both.
