Family Glamping Tent

A safari tent for up to six above the Naranjo, with room for the whole family.

Bring swimsuits for everyone: the river does the rest.

The Family Glamping Tent at Chorro Ecolodge is a safari-style tent for up to six guests on the Naranjo River, about 35 minutes from Manuel Antonio.

There is room to spread out: a queen bed, two twins and two pull-out trundles, hotel-quality mattresses, ceiling fans for warm nights and a terrace for morning coffee. The private bathroom is a few steps away, with a hot shower open to the trees.

A two-minute walk down stone steps brings you to our waterfall and its pool. Kids climb the rocks, hunt for fish with a snorkel and look for frogs at night, while the grown-ups claim the hammocks on the rancho.

For dinner, our neighbor Doña Luz cooks Costa Rican food at her house up the road. Families often book her for breakfast too.

Who it's for

Families and friends, up to six, who want the rainforest close enough to touch without giving up a good bed and hot water. Children from three to their teens have stayed here, and many families call it the favorite stop of their trip. For two to four guests, the Standard Glamping Tent is cozier; for bigger groups, book the whole lodge.

Good to know

  • Pack a flashlight. The bathroom is just outside the tent, and the toilet is a composting one.
  • Warm days, cooler nights. The fans and the shade keep the tent comfortable; bring bug spray for the evenings.
  • Keep an eye on little ones at the river. After heavy rain the current runs strong, and the pool is the calmer place to swim.
  • Plan to arrive in daylight. The last mile or so is gravel, fine for a regular car, with steps down from the parking area.
  • Meals are not included. Stock the small fridge, cook in the shared kitchen, or book dinner next door.
  • Cell signal comes and goes. Wi-Fi is limited, so download maps and games before you come.
  • Check-in 3:00 p.m., check-out 11:00 a.m.

Good to know before you book

How far is Chorro Ecolodge from Manuel Antonio and Quepos?

About 35 minutes by car from Manuel Antonio, a little less from Quepos, and about 4 hours from the San José airport. A regular car is fine; the last mile or so is gravel. There is parking on site, and we can arrange transfers.

What is the difference between glamping and camping here?

You sleep in a safari tent on real beds with linens, electricity and a ceiling fan, with your own bathroom and hot shower a few steps away. You still hear the river and the frogs all night, which is the point.

Is it good for kids?

Yes. Families with children from three to their teens stay with us, and the river, the waterfall pool, the hammocks and the fire pit keep them busy. The Family Glamping Tent sleeps six.

Can we swim in the river and the waterfall?

Yes. In the dry months the river has calm pools, and the swimming hole below the falls is a two-minute walk from the tents. After heavy rain the current can run too high; we will tell you where it is safe.

Are meals included?

No. There is a shared open-air kitchen, and the Family tent has its own small fridge. Our neighbor Doña Luz cooks Costa Rican breakfasts and dinners at her house next door; let us know ahead.
